Prince recorded Purple Rain as his sixth album, and here he is officially credited to Prince and The Revolution for the first time. This album also becomes the soundtrack of a 1984 movie with the same title, which gained big success and placed itself as the second best-selling soundtrack of all time.
There are nine tracks and nine of them are written by Prince. Two of the main singles, "When Doves Cry" and "Let's Go Crazy", reached #1 in U.S. singles charts. In album charts, Purple Rain peaked at number one in US, UK, and Australia. Up till today, 13 millions copies are sold around the globe.
