In April 1978, the music album Grease: The Original Soundtrack from the Motion Picture was released two months earlier than the movie itself. Either it was a marketing strategy for the movie or not, this soundtrack album did reach its own success aside from being part of the film with the same title, Grease. The singles "You're the One that I Want" by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John took the top of music charts either in US and UK. Another single that reached number one couple of months later was "Summer Nights" by the same singers.
Up until now, millions copies of Grease: The Original Soundtrack has been sold in the entire world. In America alone, it gets 8 platinums, which means 8 millions copies had been sold. As stated in wikipedia, "this soundtrack album has become "the sixth best-selling soundtrack album of all time."
