Under the Volcano was written by an English author writer Malcolm Lowry and published in 1947. The novel, which is a semi-autobiography, tells the story of an alcoholic former British consul, Geoffrey Firmin.
On the Day of the Dead, Geoffrey Firmin comes to Quauhnahuac, Mexico. In this small town, he is drowning and slowly destroyed by a habit that has long overshadowed him, drinking. Yvonne, Geoffrey's soon-to-be-divorced wife, comes to him in that town to pulls him out of his self destruction and tries to save their ruining marriage. However, the presence of Geoffrey's half-brother Hugh and friend Jacques has made Yvonne's attempts to save her marriage becomes difficult. In that single day, the Day of the Dead, events unfold an unforgettable scenery.
