In 1985, Rain Dogs was released as the 9th studio album of Tom Waits. There are nineteen songs and all of them were written by Waits (one is collaboration with his wife Kathleen Brennan. There are also guess appearance of Keith Richards, Rolling Stones guitarist.
Rain Dogs is acknowledged for its rich musical style. It still reflects Tom’s roots in blues/jazz but there are also polka, ballad, and gospel. It also has been considered as one of the most important in his career, musically and critically. Rolling Stone magazine listed it twice: at #21 in their "100 Greatest Albums of the 1980s" and at #397 in their The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
