In 1985, Rain Dogs was released as the 9th studio album of Tom Waits. There are nineteen songs and all of them were written by Waits (one is collaboration with his wife Kathleen Brennan. There are also guess appearance of Keith Richards, Rolling Stones guitarist.

Rain Dogs is acknowledged for its rich musical style. It still reflects Tom’s roots in blues/jazz but there are also polka, ballad, and gospel. It also has been considered as one of the most important in his career, musically and critically. Rolling Stone magazine listed it twice: at #21 in their "100 Greatest Albums of the 1980s" and at #397 in their The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

In 1993, Nirvana—famous for their noisy, full-of-feedback guitar, grunge music—made a monumental acoustic concert and that concert later documented into the album Unplugged in New York, which was released in 1994. The Seattle trio of Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl performed the calm versions of their hits on stage with some additional musicians including Kurt’s favorite, the Meat Puppet.

The show was organized and aired by MTV network and the album Unplugged in New York skyrocketed to #1 on the Billboard 200 chart in the first week of its released. Critics and fans alike adore it and it listed at #311 in Rolling Stone magazine’s The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Seattle most famous grunge band, Nirvana, released their third album entitled In Utero in 1993. This will be their final studio album. Kurt Cobain, especially, and the other band members, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl, decided to make a record that with music and sound that is not as “polished” as their best-selling album, Nevermind. Still with Cobain as the main creator, they produce a much raw and natural sound in this album.

In 1991, Nirvana released an album that became the milestone of their career and music history. The Beach Boys made an "unsuccessful masterpiece" with their 16th album Sunflower that was released in 1970. The artistic quality of their music is among their best in this album and it was (and is) favorable by critics, yet its achievement in the market was quite low. It was also reflected by Sunflower achievement in the chart: in US it only went as far as 151 and the British chart accepted it better so it reached #29.

The main creative force for this album still came from the Wilson brothers, Dennis and Brian, although Brian was not playing as much role as Beach boys previous albums. And despite some high-quality tracks they managed to create, only the reviewers accepted them and not the market. Pet Sounds is The Beach Boys' eleventh album and it was released in 1966.
