Louise Rennison - Confessions of Georgia Nicolson Book 6 to 10 eBooks

Posted on 11:29 PM by Unknown
Confessions of Georgia Nicolson Book 6 to 10
Book 6 – Book 10; Language English;

Confessions of Georgia Nicolson is a young-adult/teen novel series written by English author Louise Rennison. There are ten books in the series, with the first volume published in 1999 and the final installment released in 2009. In autobiographical style, the series delivers the journal of Georgia Nicolson, a teenage girl who lives and grows up in England.

Just like most teen-lit novels, the series humorously illustrates Georgia Nicolson’s life among her family and her adventure with her “gang.”  The family here consists of an embarrassing father, a loose mother, a weird little sister, and a vicious pet cat. Her refuge for friendship, comfort, and fun is a group of her best friends, the Ace Gang.

As a girl going through the tumultuous teenage years, boys and relationships are probably among the most important and complicated issues for Georgia, and also her friends. Most of the plots in series are built around those issues and occupying the spotlight is Georgia's dilemma and inability to settle her choice between Robbie (initial boyfriend), Masimo (the Italian stallion), and Dave the Laugh (a close friend). Teenage friendship is another major theme in the story, which is captured in the relationships among the Ace Gang members.

Shantaram is a novel written by Australian writer Gregory David Roberts first published in 2003. Before becoming an author and charity worker, Roberts was a heroin addict and bank robber, who got caught but then escaped from Pentridge Prison and fled to India. The title, which is an Indian word means “man of peace” in English, was taken from the name Roberts given by his best friend's mother during the time he lived in India. Although the author stated that the book is actually a fictional novel, there is a debate surrounding it about how much of it is actual fact—some people refer the book as an autobiography—and which parts are invented fictions.

Joseph Heller - Catch-22
Language: English; PDF Pages: 371; File Size: 1.5 MB;

Catch-22 is a now classic satirical novel written by American author and World War II veteran Joseph Heller. First published in 1961, the book has become one of the most important twentieth century literary works. Since early after its publication, it has gained cult followers and until now approximately 10 million copies of it have been sold. A fellow WWII veteran, who is also an author and a scholar, referred to the novel as the most accurate book about military. The title itself, Catch-22, has introduced a new term entry in English vocabulary which means, as written at Wikipedia.com, “a problematic situation for which the only solution is denied by a circumstance inherent in the problem or by a rule."

Set during the World War II, the story in the novel is somewhat historical and it covers several themes and motives; among others are heroism, (absurdity, inefficiency, and power of) bureaucracy, religious faith, sanity, greed, and amorality of capitalism. However, despite the WWII background in the story, Heller said that he got the influence from and intended his criticisms toward the Koran War and the Cold War.

Eiji Yoshikawa - Mushashi eBook (PDF)

Eiji Yoshikawa - Mushashi
Language: English; PDF Pages: 1110; File Size: 4 MB;

Mushashi is an epic Japanese historical-fiction written by Eiji Yoshikawa, one of the best authors in Japan well known for his classic works Taiko and Heike Story. Although Yoshikawa’s work is a fiction, it is based on true history. Miyamoto Musashi was a real and renowned Japanese swordsman lived around the 17th century. The story was first published as a serial in Asahi Shimbun (Morning Sun Newspaper) in 1935 before it was finally compiled into a novel series and into a single edition—the English version was first released in 1981—and since then, the book has become a classic throughout the world.

As a novel, Musashi is in the best tradition of Japanese story telling. It focuses on the journey of a rōnin (Japanese swordsman) in climbing the steep and harsh path in the Way of the Samurai, which can be translated into reaching perfection in doing what someone’s do best and completeness as a human being. The book is imaginative and refined, filled with a living story and excellent characters—most are historical. It is a great depiction of an absolute dedication of a person, interweaved with other themes including unconditional love, blind and foolish revenge, and filial piety.

Book Description:
Miyamoto Musashi was lured to join the great Battle of Sekigahara only to find himself losing the war and his dream. Being a fugitive, he conducted reckless bloody acts until finally captured by Takuan the Zen Monk. This event was the beginning of his long self transformation and also his complicated romantic relationship with the lovely Otsu.

He then spent years in a long journey to hone his swordsmanship and reach perfection as a human being. Along the way he fought numerous sword battles, including against the famous Yoshioka. At the same time, he was constantly “pursued” by Matahachi (his childhood friend who went to Sekigahara with him and was lured into a degenerated life path), Osugi (Matahachi’s mother who wanted to killed him because she blamed him for destroying his son’s life), and Otsu (who deeply in love with him and wanted to be with him no matter what). His adventurous journey would reach its peak in the famous duel against Sasaki Kojiro, the other greatest swordsman of that era.

Language: English; PDF Pages: 229; File Size: 1.8 MB;

Criss Cross is a novel by Lynne Rae Perkins, American author and illustrator of books for children or young adult. It expands the story and, especially, the character of Debbie from her previous book All Alone in the Universe. Despite the mixed reviews (some consider it too subtle and many feel the contemporary realism in it resonates with them), the novel has proven its excellence in children's literature and won Newbery Medal in 2006.

Filled with vignettes, poems (haikus), illustrations, and photographs, the novel focuses on a bunch of teenagers in a small town, where nothing “big” really happens. The two main characters who narrate most of the story are Debbie and Hector; both are 14 years old both are entering the phase of leaving childhood behind yet not fully grown up. The other teen characters, who experience the exact same thing as both of them, are Patty, Lenny, Phil, and Peter.

As written in a New York Times article, some school libraries banned it as a result of the use of a single word, “scrotum”, in the first page. Responses came from Patron herself, associations, and fellow authors. Patron stated that the choice of the word was based on her own knowledge of a rattlesnake biting a dog's scrotum and it also serves as anatomy explanation for 9 – 12 years old readers. The American Library Association and some authors also encouraged people to see the real value in the novel and not to focus on that single word.
