Jeffrey Archer - Kane and Abel pdf (eBook)

Posted on 10:02 PM by Unknown
Cover of "Kane and Abel", a novel by Jeffrey Archer
Language: English; PDF Pages: 757; File Size: 1.5 MB;

Taking the title and the story based on the Biblical sons of Adam, British author Jeffrey Archer presents an internationally successful novel, Kane and Abel. The book was first published in 1979 in the United Kingdom and the American edition was released in the following year. In the US, it topped New York Times bestseller list. In 2003, in The Big Read survey by BBC, the book was listed at 96.

The novel tells about two men born on the opposite sides of the world. They live in literally different worlds, with nothing in common except their date of birth. William Lowell Kane is from a rich and powerful family, while Abel Rosnovski (born Wladek Koskiewicz) is from a poor family in Poland who eventually immigrates to the US. Both are ambitious and would do almost everything to stand at the top of the world, and their journeys in fulfilling their ambitions—and also probably fates—bring them together. Through three generations of their families in more than sixty years, Kane and Abel go through a battle for the ultimate success and triumph.

Born on the same day near the turn of the century on opposite sides of the world, both men are brought together by fate and the quest of a dream. These two men -- ambitious, powerful, ruthless -- are locked in a relentless struggle to build an empire, fuelled by their all-consuming hatred. Over 60 years and three generations, through war, marriage, fortune, and disaster, Kane and Abel battle for the success and triumph that only one man can have.

As said by famous critic Luc Sante, "The Count of Monte Cristo has become a fixture of Western civilization's literature, as inescapable and immediately identifiable as Mickey Mouse, Noah's flood, and the story of Little Red Riding Hood."

Book Description (as written at Amazon.com):
Thrown in prison for a crime he has not committed, Edmond Dantes is confined to the grim fortress of If. There he learns of a great hoard of treasure hidden on the Isle of Monte Cristo and becomes determined not only to escape but to unearth the treasure and use it to plot the destruction of the three men responsible for his incarceration. A huge popular success when it was first serialized in the 1840s, Dumas was inspired by a real-life case of wrongful imprisonment when writing his epic tale of suffering and retribution.
