First published in 2003, Monstrous Regiment is the 31st novel in Discworld fantasy series by Terry Pratchett. The title is a reference to John Knox tract in the 16th century. There are still many intriguing references made by Pratchett in this book, including to various big wars such as Napoleonic Wars and World War I and to the subject of feminism and Joan of Arc. To make the story even more exciting, he also brings out interesting characters: a vampire, a troll, a werewolf, a band of misfits, and a young gal who crossdresses to join the army—something that actually happened in the past when army and wars are “men only”.
