A Town Like Alice (also known as The Legacy in its US title) is a romance novel by Nevil Shute. Published in 1950 after Shute moved to Australia, the story in this book is developed around life in Australia and Malaya during and after World War II. It tells the survival of a young Englishwoman who was captured by and become a prisoner—along with other women and children—when the Japanese invaded Malaya, and her journey to find the man who has saved her and also the other women’s lives.
