Don Van Vliet was an American musician, singer, songwriter, also artist and poet. He was widely famous by his stage name Captain Beefheart. In his musical work, he was accompanied by a rotating ensemble of musicians called The Magic Band. Together with that band, he recorded 13 studio albums. He was most acknowledged for his powerful singing voice and also his raw, wild, and unique music style. His music is a mixture of rock, blues and psychedelia which was presented in an avant-garde and contemporary experimental composition.
Captain Beefheart a.k.a. Van Vliet is considered as "one of modern music's true innovators" with "a singular body of work virtually unrivalled in its daring and fluid creativity". Albeit the limited commercial or mainstream critical success, he sustained a cult following as a "highly significant" and "incalculable" influence on an array of New Wave, punk, post-punk, experimental and alternative rock musicians.
Mirror Man is the fifth studio album by Captain Beefheart & his Magic Band. The recording of the materials was carried out in 1967. There are only four songs in this album but the total length reaches 52 minutes because of the long duration of the songs. The album is dominated by blues-rooted jam music featuring uncharacteristically sparse lyrical accompaniment from Beefheart.
Here’s the complete list of the songs in this album:
1. "Tarotplane"
2. "Kandy Korn"
3. "25th Century Quaker"
4. "Mirror Man"
