Canadian cartoonist Bryan Lee O'Malley achieved huge critical acclaim and commercial success with his novel graphic masterpiece Scott Pilgrim. In 2009, the series presented the fifth volume Scott Pilgrim vs. the Universe. O'Malley once stated that the most challenging part in creating Scott Pilgrim was the ending and when he started the writing process of volume 5, he had a vision that the fifth and sixth volume would reflect one single story: 5 would be the "darkest hour" and 6 would be "the redemption arc."
