The Poetic Edda—along with The Prose Edda—is the most important extant source on Norse mythology and Germanic heroic legends. The book contains a compilation of Old Norse poems mainly preserved in the Icelandic medieval manuscript, Codex Regius. Beginning from the 19th century, it becomes a great influence on later Scandinavian literature.
