First published in 2004, Five Point Someone: What not to do at IIT! is the debut novel of Indian author Chetan Bhagat. Despite the mixed reception and criticism it received, the book has become one of the best-selling English novels in India, and even still stays in the bestseller list until now. It has also been adapted into movies, 3 Idiots (Hindi) and Nanban (Tamil), thought there is a controversy between author and the moviemaker regarding how much part of the movie actually came from the book.
The book is set in the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi. The time is around 1991 to 1995. The story evolves around three mechanical engineering students, who are best friends and hostel-mates: Hari Kumar (the narrator), Ryan Oberoi, and Alok Gupta. Read more »
