In mid 1967, The Beach Boys released their 12th album Smiley Smile. Arguably, this is the most controversial album by the band; many fans regard it as a big failure while others have the polar opposite opinion. Among the admirer of this album The Who leader, Pete Townshend.
This album only hit number 41 in the US chart and achieved better position in UK chart, at number 9. However it didn't sell well that it didn't even went Gold.
