This is a fantasy novel for young adults readers written by the Australian writer, Garth Nix. Sabriel is part one of the Old Kingdom trilogy, which is well known as the Abhorsen trilogy.

Welcome to the Old Kingdom, which is lied north of the 20th-Century-England-like country Ancelstierre, where magic prevails and spiritual beings like the undead and elemental spirit roam the land, where the the Abhorsen, the anti-necromancy sorcerer, try to fight the Necromancers' works.At the beginning of Sabriel, the Abhorsen in charge is Terciel, Sabriel's father. As the guard against black magic, Terciel's duty is to repell the dead creatures from doing evil deeds, especially near the walls, the border between Old Kingdom and the "ordinary" country Ancelstierre. Suddenly e new kind of evil arises, and Terciel faces something too overwhelming for him.
This new Evil Kerrigor, a former Royal Family of the Old Kingdom, makes Terciel no longer be able to carry on his duty as the Abhorsen, he hands over his bells and sword to his daughter Sabriel. At the moment, Sabriel is still pursuing her education in a school in Ancelstierre school and it is hard to reach her, and trying to do it would pu her farther on a stake. Yet she is finally returns, only to find her father, Terciel the Abhorsen, is being trapped in Death.
